Fencing & Gates

We have built a strong reputation as one of the oldest and most well respected names for the supply of pressure treated timber fencing and gates to the agricultural, equine, local authority and domestic markets.

We are able to pressure treat timber with creosote for unrivalled long service life, or Osmose AC500 for a 15 to 30 year desired service life. Creosote pressure treatment not only extends the service life expectance of timber products but is particularly useful in agricultural applications as animals will not chew on creosoted timber.

As holders of the Royal Warrant for the supply of preserved timber fencing to Her Majesty The Queen, we take great pride in the products we produce. The fencing we supply Her Majesty can be found in situ at The Royal Stud, and we endeavour to produce all our fencing and gate products to the same high standards.

With our own milling facilities and highly knowledgeable staff on site we are able to produce bespoke products as well as working with customers unique designs to create one off products.

At any one time we stock a full range of fencing and gates at our site in Boston, Lincolnshire. All our stock items are available for nationwide delivery ready for use.

Production Process

Harvesting & Inspection

All the timber used in the manufacture of every Calders & Grandidge product is FSC/PEFC certified. As such we only source timber from sustainable, well managed forests.

After harvesting all timber is inspected to ensure it meets the standards required to produce high quality fencing and gates.

Drying

Timber is kiln dried to extract all excess moisture. This leaves space on a cellular level for our pressure treatment impregnation chemicals to permeate the timber and remain in place throughout their service life.

Easing

Before the dried timber is delivered to our site in Boson, Lincolnshire it is eased and smoothed out, providing a high quality finish and quality our customers expect.

Shaping

Once the timber arrives on site it is machine cut using our state of the art Hundegger SC1. This computer aided precision timber cutting machinery cuts perfectly all the timer into shape ready to be assembled. Tennon and mortise joints are shaped to fit neatly into one another without leaving any space to come lose.

Bespoke designs can be programmed into our SC1 to cut timber specifically for customers with unique design requirements.

Impregnation

Softwood timber is next pressure treated with either green or brown Osmose AC500 solution to enhance the desired service life of the finished product. Post treatment any Calders & Grandidge fence or gate will have a desired service life of 15 years.

We only ever treat timber with AC500 solution once it has been cut to its final dimensions. This ensures that all exposed surfaces absorb the treatment equally, resulting in a better quality product.

Assembly

Once the timber has dried we hand assemble each and every gate that leaves our site. By assembling in the manner we ensure that every product we supply is given the individual attention to detail by one of our skilled craftsmen that it deserves.

This process also allows for quality checking on every single gate during its final stage of construction, meaning no individual gate can be sent out that does not meet standards, be that being cut improperly, or not treated fully.
