As part of the global Saint-Gobain Building Distribution business we recognise our responsibilities towards the communities in which we work, and endeavour to be a good member of those communities.
We have initiatives in place to ensure our social responsibilities are met and that we have the latest employment-related legislation.
We believe everyone should be treated with dignity, fairness and respect at work. Our aim is to, where possible, exceed the legal requirements for ‘in the workplace’ laws and have our own robust initiatives in place to facilitate this. These include:
— Equality and diversity
— Anti bullying and harassment
— Stress at work
— Employee recognition and reward
— Family friendly working conditions
Our aim is to provide all employees with the skills, knowledge and behaviours to operate effectively and efficiently, enabling them to provide the highest standard of service to our customers.
As a business we recognise that our biggest asset is our people, that’s why we offer an extensive range of development opportunities, including work based experience, formal courses and programmes, plus line management and coaching. We identify opportunities through annual appraisals, succession planning and requirements of individual roles.
We also actively encourage the recruitment of graduates, college students and school leavers, and develop their skills though our own internal training programmes.

Calders & Grandidge commitment to the health and safety of colleagues, customers and the public is absolute. As proof of this we hold a prestigious Saint-Gobain Diamond Award for Health and Safety. Only 25 of these awards are presented annually across Saint-Gobain’s 20,000 manufacturing sites worldwide and we are extremely proud to be the recipients of such an accolade.
We regard the promotion of Health and Safety measures as the mutual responsibility of management and employees alike at all levels, and we are accredited with OHSAS18001 in recognition of our procedures.
Some of our key initiatives that have lead to Health and Safety excellence are:
— A dedicated ‘Health and Safety Day’
— ‘Cleansweep’ – providing a framework for storage, waste management, housekeeping and stock control.
— ‘Zero Harm’ – behavioural based safety auditing scheme.
— SMAT Audits – ‘senior management audit tools’ which are carried out virtually every day on site.
